Heavy snowfall this past Friday postponed high school basketball games for the Indian Lake / Long Lake and Wells boys’ varsity teams.  However, area teams did play games mid-week and Saturday afternoon.

BOYS VARSITY

IL/LL 46, M/N 23

The IL/LL boys hosted Minerva / Newcomb Tuesday for an easy win. Led by Matt Moore’s hustling defense and team high 15 points, The Orange was never challenged. Seniors Matt Rusch and Hank Evatt contributed 10 and 6 points respectively as well as playing outstanding defense.

IL/LL: Moore 6-2-15, Jennings 0-0-0, Farrell 0-2-2, Wells 0-0-0, S.Mor 3-1-7, Pitcher 2-0-4, Douglas 0-0-0, Evatt 3-0-6, Torenz 0-0-0, Ghanier 1-0-2, Hart 0-0-0, Rusch 5-0-10. Totals 20-5-46.

Johnsburg 61, Wells 48

The Wells boys traveled to North Creek Wednesday to face Johnsburg. After the first quarter Wells trailed by only five points. The Indians came on strong in the second quarter to outscore the host Jaguars 16-9 and trail by only two heading into halftime.

After the break Johnsburg came out with a solid attack to take a 16-6 advantage in the third quarter and an 8-point lead. In the final period, Johnsburg outscored Wells by five points on the way to the win while maintaining their undefeated record.

Jake Early and John Fish each scored 15 points to lead Wells’ offense.

Wells: Earley 6-3-15, Hayes 2-0-6, Woodward 3-1-7, Raymond 2-1-5, Fish 7-1-15, Longenecker 0-0-0. Totals 20-6-48.

Johnsburg: Conner 5-4-14, Prouty 2-4-8, Ordway 8-1-19, Veldman 1-0-2, Richards 8-2-18. Totals 24-11-61.

IL/LL 37, Old Forge 34

Saturday afternoon the IL/LL boys hosted Old Forge in Long Lake. After the first eight minutes of play the two teams were tied at eight points each. In the second and third quarters The Orange outscored The Huskies to hold a healthy 29-16 lead going into the final quarter.

IL/LL had two players in foul trouble, which allowed Old Forge to get back in the game. With not much time remaining, the game was tied at 34. Stephen Pitcher’s jump shot late in the game put The Orange back in the lead and allowed them squeak out the 37-34 win.

Hank Evatt’s 12 points led IL/LL. Matt Rusch contributed 10 points and nine rebounds, while Matt Moore chipped in with eight points, six rebounds and three assists.

GIRLS VARSITY

IL/LL 35, Newcomb 10

Wednesday evening the IL/LL girls trekked to Newcomb where they maintained their undefeated league record with a 35-10 win. Carli Reynolds was the leading scorer for The Orange with 15 points. Melanie Pierson contributed 10 points, Allison Pine had seven rebounds and Murphy Farrell recorded five steals and five assists.

IL/LL: Farrell 0-0-0, Bain 1-0-2, Pierson 3-0-6, Reynolds 5-5-15, Pine 3-2-8, Smith 2-0-4, Miller 0-0-0, S.Hinkley 0-0-0, M.Hinkley 0-0-0, Dushane 0-0-0. Totals 14-7-35.

M/N: Winslow 1-0-3, Bolan 1-1-3, McNally 1-0-2, Miller 0-2-2, Bennett 0-0-0, Yandon 0-0-0, Green 0-0-0, Li 0-0-0, Hammond 0-0-0, Debeauvais 0-0-0. Totals 3-3-10.

Wells 42, Johnsburg 23

The Wells girls also traveled Wednesday, to face Johnsburg in a MVAC Division III match-up. Wells held a slim three-point lead after the first period and outscored The Jaguars in the second quarter for a seven-point halftime lead. After the intermission the Indians turned up the intensity, outscoring Johnsburg 25-13 in the second half for the 42-23 win.

Karlie Tomlinson was Wells’ leading scorer with 17 points. Amanda Vrooman contributed nine points and 14 rebounds.
