Area high school basketball teams were busy last week, playing eight games. The Indian Lake / Long Lake boys picked up two more wins to improve their record to 7-4, while the IL/LL girls split a pair of games to finish the week at 8-3. The Wells boys and girls suffered a couple of losses each to end the week with records of 3-7 and 0-8 respectively.

M/N 58, IL/LL 31

IL/LL girls hosted division-leading Minerva / Newcomb in Long Lake Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Lady Orange battled back from a 19-5 first quarter deficit to outscore M/N 12-11 in the second quarter. In the second half, The Mountaineers doubled IL/LL's scoring 28-14 to obtain the 58-31 win. Jazmin Piraino led IL/LL with nine points.

M/N: Yandon 0-1-1, Bennett 0-0-0, Winslow 8-0-17, Rubertone 2-1-5, McNally 4-0-8, Miller 2-0-4, McCall 0-0-0, McNally 3-0-6, Bureau 0-0-0, Myler 8-1-17. Totals 27-3-58.

The IL/LL boys traveled to Olmstedville Wednesday, Jan. 22. A 10-point Orange half-time lead was diminished to seven points after M/N won the third quarter 13-10. IL/LL turned up the heat in the final period, outscoring the Mountaineers 18-8 en route to the 55-38 win. Henry Sandiford led the IL/LL offense with 19 points.

IL/LL: Hoag 1-4-6, Pine 1-0-2, DeShaw 0-0-0, Sandiford 8-0-19, Seaman 4-0-9, Shortt 2-0-4, Miller 0-0-0, Morrissey 2-0-5, Giesson 4-0-8, Fredericks 1-0-2. Totals 23-4-55.

The Wells and Schroon Lake boys matched up in Schroon Lake Wednesday, Jan. 22. Schroon Lake maintained the lead throughout the game to pick up a 65-38 win. Ken Chicoski scored 12 points to lead Wells.

Wells: Chicoski 5-0-12, Weaver 2-0-4, Taylor 3-0-8, Michienzi 1-0-3, Foster 2-0-6, Brenan 2-1-5. Totals 15-1-38.

SCHROON LK. 45, WELLS 21

Wells and Schroon Lake girls played a Northern Basketball League game in Wells Thursday, Jan. 23. The Lady Indians, playing with only five players throughout the game, got off to a good start, leading Schroon Lake 16-12 at halftime. However, they couldn't hold back The Wildcats in the second half and suffered the 45-21 loss. Erika Foster led Wells with nine points and 13 rebounds.

Schroon Lake: Ververka 1-1-3, Finnerty 9-1-20, Gadway 3-3-9, Lanave 1-1-3, Wisser 3-0-6, Subra 2-0-4. Totals: 19-6-45.

Wells: Brenan 1-0-2, Simons 2-0-5, Kennedy 1-1-3, Darling 1-0-2, Foster 4-1-9. Totals: 9-2-21.

TICONDEROGA 93, WELLS 38

Ticonderoga, a Class C, Northern Basketball League Divison II school, was too much for the Wells boys in a game played in Ticonderoga Friday, Jan. 24. The Sentinels dominated in their 93-38 win. Ben Brenan was high scorer for Wells with 12 points.

Wells: Chicoski 2-0-5, Weaver 3-5-11, Taylor 3-0-8, Foster 1-0-2, Brenan 6-0-12, Giawott 0-0-0, Peck 0-0-0, Michienzi 0-0-0, Beach 0-0-0, Young 0-0-0. Totals 15-5-38.

Ticonderoga: Austin 5-2-12, Graney 2-0-5, Afzal 2-0-4, Cook 4-3-11, Donohue 3-0-6, Hughes 2-0-4, Wiktorko 2-0-4, Denno 8-1-17, Tierney 1-0-2, Ross 0-0-0, DuShane 7-1-15, Bevins 1-0-2, Nielsen 4-0-11. Totals 41-7-93.

The Wells girls also last a game in Ticonderoga Friday, Jan. 24. Details of that game were unavailable.

IL/LL 43, LK. PLACID 31

In Long Lake Friday, Jan. 24, the IL/LL girls led The Blue Bombers of Lake Placid throughout the game to get a 12-point victory. Shannon Farrell connected on 10 of 12 foul shots as part of her game-high 14 points. Ranya Hamdan had a strong game with 12 points, nine rebounds and seven steals. Lily Dechene chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.

IL/LL: King 0-0-0, Moore 1-0-2, Farrell 2-10-14, Piraino 3-0-6, Hamdan 6-0-12, Carroll 0-0-0, Dechene 4-2-10, Seery 1-1-3. Totals 17-13-47.

Lake Placid: Matos 0-0-0, Jesmer 0-2-2, Potter 7-1-16, Goff 1-0-2, Blair 1-1-3, Uebrick 2-0-4, Barney 0-0-0, Migliore 2-0-4. Totals 13-4-31.

IL/LL 45, LK. PLACID 44

The IL/LL boys jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead in a game versus Lake Placid in Long Lake Friday, Jan. 24. The Blue Bombers controlled the second quarter with a 14-5 advantage to take a 25-20 first half lead. IL/LL rallied to come within two points of Lake Placid heading into the final quarter. The game was decided in the last seconds, when Henry Sandiford netted a three-pointer with six seconds remaining on the clock.

Curtis Seaman was high scorer for IL/LL with 19 points. Sandiford contributed 12 points, while Zach Hoag hauled in 10 rebounds.

IL/LL: Hoag 2-1-5, Pine 1-3-6, Sandiford 4-2-12, Seaman 7-2-19, Shortt 0-0-0, Morrissey 0-0-0, Giessen 0-2-2, Fredrichs 0-1-1. Totals 14-11-45.
