High school basketball was fairly quiet this past week as the student-athletes focused on mid-term tests and Regents’ exams. Friday was the lone day of action, with the Wells teams traveling to Elizabethtown and Indian Lake / Long Lake hosting Lake Placid in Long Lake.

E’TOWN 72 WELLS 18

The Elizabethtown girls, currently ranked seventh in New York State Class D girls’ basketball, held Wells to single digit scoring in each quarter en route to their 72-18 win over the Lady Indians. Brittany Woodward and Samantha Zemken each scored seven points for Wells.

Wells: Woodward 2-1-7, Mayer 0-0-0, Stone 0-0-0, Page 2-0-4, Zemken 2-3-7, Longenecker 0-0-0. Totals: 6-4-18.

E’town: Cox 0-0-0, Morris 2-0-4, J. Barnes 6-0-12, Grady 1-0-2, Cassavaugh 4-0-8, Burdo 0-0-0, McGinn 1-0-2, Whalen 8-3-19, Brooks 4-2-10, Graves 3-0-6, Ashline 2-0-4, Disogra 2-1-5, A. Barnes 0-0-0. Totals: 33-6-72.

E’TOWN 51, WELLS 45

The Wells boys got off to a good start, leading Elizabethtown 11-8 after the first quarter, but the host Lions chipped away at the lead to gain a 21-18 halftime advantage. Wells fought back to take the third quarter 13-12 with Elizabethtown maintaining the lead by two at 33-31. The Lions pulled away in the fourth quarter to win the game 51-45.

Elizabethtown received Honorable Mention in last week’s New York State Class D boys’ basketball state rankings.

Jake Earley paced Wells with 10 points, while Ben Brenan and Kenny Chicoski each tallied nine points.

IL/LL 63, LK PLACID 41

Matt Moore had the hot hand for IL/LL, scoring 26 points to lead his team in a 63-41 win over Lake Placid. Moore netted four three-point shots on his 10 for 17 shooting night. Henry Sandiford contributed 11 points, while Curtis Seaman and Colin Farrell each got 10.

IL/LL 42, LAKE PLACID 24

Seventieth state ranked IL/LL girls picked up a win over Lake Placid. Meg Smith led The Orange with 18 points and six rebounds. Jessica Bain put in another versatile game, scoring 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
