For the fourth time in five weeks weather affected the local high school basketball schedule. The Wells boys’ and girls’ had games scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 2, with King’s School postponed to Feb. 15. Otherwise, the Indian Lake / Long Lake boys’ and girls’ teams and Wells boys all played two games. The Wells girls got in one game last week.

BOYS VARSITY

LAKE PLACID 50 IL/LL 24

Tuesday, Feb. 1, the IL/LL boys traveled to Lake Placid. The host Bombers jumped out to a 16-2 first quarter lead that proved to be too much for The Orange to recover from. Matt Moore was high scorer for IL/LL with seven points.

IL/LL: More 3-1-7, Jennings 0-0-0, Farrell 3-0-6, Wells 0-0-0, Pitcher 2-1-5, Evatt 3-0-6, Gagnier 0-0-0, Hart 0-0-0. Totals: 11-2-24.__

JOHNSBURG 61, WELLS 49

The Wells boys were in action Thursday, Feb. 3, with a game in Johnsburg. Jake Early was upset minded as he poured in 26 points against the Jaguars. However, it wasn’t enough to shut down Johnsburg, as it won the game at 61-49 and remained undefeated in the MVAC.

Wells: Earley 11-2-26, Hayes 3-0-7, Woodward 2-0-4, Raymond 3-0-6, Fish 3-0-6, Hoffman 0-0-0, Jennings 0-0-0, Longnecker 0-0-0. Totals 22-2-49.

IL/LL 47, CROWN PT. 40

The Crown Point Panthers traveled to Long Lake Friday evening to face IL/LL boys. After the first quarter, The Panthers held a slight advantage at 6-4. The Orange controlled the final three quarters on their way to the 47-40 win.

The Orange was led by seniors Matt Rusch and Hank Evatt. Rusch had a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Evatt recorded 12 points and eight rebounds. Colin Farrell contributed 11 points, 10 of which were scored in the third quarter.

IL/LL: Moore 1-0-3, Farrell 4-2-11, Pitcher 2-1-5, Evatt 5-2-12, Hart 0-0-0, Rusch 8-0-16. Totals 20-5-47.

The week of games concluded Saturday, Feb. 5, when Wells traveled to Bolton Landing for a non-league game. For the second time in a week, Jake Early had an outstanding offensive game, scoring 24 points. The Indians, who only had six players suit up for the game, had a tough time down the stretch. Four players fouled out of the game, leaving only two eligible players on the court. Bolton Landing won the game 73-39.

Wells: Earley 6-12-24, Woodward 1-0-2, Raymond 2-3-7, Fish 1-0-2, Longenecker 1-2-4, Jennings 0-0-0. Totals 11-17-39.

GIRLS VARSITY

The IL/LL girls were also in action Tuesday, Feb. 1, hosting Minerva / Newcomb in Long Lake. The Orange led 32-10 at halftime and continued to control the game for the Division III win. Carli Reynolds, who recorded her 1000th career point in the game, led The Orange offense with 25 points and six assists. Murphy Farrell contributed 12 points and four steals.

IL/LL: Farrell 6-0-12, Bain 3-0-6, Pierson 3-0-6, Reynolds 8-8-25, S. Hinckley 0-0-0, Pine 1-2-4, M. Hinckley 0-0-0, Smith 1-0-2, DeShane 0-0-0. Totals: 22-10-55.

IL/LL 33, SCHROON LK. 27

Thursday, Feb. 3, the IL/LL girls traveled to Schroon Lake where they maintained their unbeaten MVAC record. The Orange held a slim one point first quarter lead, then opened the game up some with an 11-5 second quarter, ending the half up 20-13. After halftime the host Wildcats came on strong to win the quarter 12-7 and trail by only two heading into the final stanza. In the final period, The Orange held a 6-2 advantage to win the game at 33-27.

High scorer for The Orange was Carli Reynolds with 13 points. She also recorded five assists and five rebounds. Murphy Farrell chipped in with eight points while Allison Pine recorded eight rebounds and six assists in the win.

Friday evening The Lady Indians of Wells hosted Johnsburg in a Division III game. Amanda Vrooman had an outstanding night, recording a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds as well as snagging four steals to lead her team to the 56-29 win.

Also contributing to the win was Kayla Page with 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals, Brittany Woodward with eight rebounds and three steals and Samantha Bartholf with five steals and four assists.
