Regular season basketball came to a close last week, and only the Indian Lake / Long Lake Orange will advance to post-season play in the Section VII tournament. The IL/LL boys’ team is the number six seed in a field of 10 teams that will compete for the Section VII Class D Championship.

The Orange will travel to third seed Schroon Lake Saturday, Feb. 22, for a 6 p.m. game against the Wildcats. A win would advance IL/LL to the semifinals scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26, at AuSable Valley Central School. The Section VII championship game will be Saturday, March 1, at Plattsburgh State Field House.

Quarterfinals - Saturday, Feb. 22, vs. Schroon Lake at Schroon Lake 6 p.m.

Semi-finals - Wednesday, Feb. 26, at AuSable Valley Central School 6 p.m.

Championship – Saturday, March 1, at Plattsburgh State Field House.

J'BURG 58, WELLS 55

The Wells boys wrapped up their season in Johnsburg Monday, Feb. 10. The Indians got off to a good start, leading 22-6 at the end of the first quarter. The remaining three quarters belonged to Johnsburg as they outscored Wells 52-33 en route to a 58-55 win.

Three players finished in double figures for Wells. Nick Taylor led the way with 15 points, Seth Weaver contributed 14 and Kenny Chicoski chipped in with 12. Wells ended the season with a 5-9 record.

Wells: Chicoski 5-0-12, Weaver 6-2-14, Taylor 6-0-15, Michienzi 3-0-6, Brenan 3-2-8. Totals 23-4-55.

Johnsburg: Smith 4-1-9, Prouty 3-1-7, Berg 6-0-14, Cleveland 4-1-9, Slater 1-0-3, Washburn 5-1-12, Moore 1-2-4. Totals 24-6-58.

KEENE 59, IL/LL 37

The IL/LL girls completed their Northern Basketball League schedule Tuesday, Feb. 11, when they hosted Keene in Long Lake. The Lady Orange battled back from an eight point first quarter deficit to tie the game at 21-21 heading into halftime. After the break, Keene outscored IL/LL 38-16 to get the 59-37 win.

Shannon Farrell was the top scorer for The Orange with 13 points. IL/LL finished the season with a 9-5 league record.

Keene: Whitney 8-1-19, Peduzzi 6-3-15, Smith 5-1-12, Geiger 2-0-4, Geiger 3-3-9. Totals 24-8-59.

IL/LL: King 2-0-4, Dumond 0-0-0, Moore 0-0-0, Farrell 5-1-13, Piraino 3-0-6, Hamdan 2-0-4, Carroll 0-0-0, Black 0-0-0, Dechene 5-0-10, Seery 0-0-0. Totals 17-1-37.

IL/LL 63, OLD FORGE 50

Curtis Seaman lit up the scoreboard for 35 points when the IL/LL boys hosted Old Forge in a non-league game Thursday, Feb. 13. IL/LL trailed by three points after the first quarter, but battled back to take a five-point lead into the final period. Over the last eight minutes IL/LL secured the 63-50 win by outscoring Old Forge 15-7. Henry Sandiford contributed 18 points for The Orange.

Old Forge: Ferron 5-3-13, Johnson 4-4-13, Dillon 2-0-4, Kelly 3-1-9, Lensi 2-0-6, Lanphear 0-1-1, Ulrich 0-0-0, DeVoldre 1-0-2, Husler 1-0-2. Totals 18-9-50.

IL/LL: Hoag 1-1-3, Pine 1-0-2, Sandiford 6-6-18, Seaman 15-1-35, Shortt 0-0-0, Vyhnis 0-0-0, Fredricks 1-3-5, King 0-0-0. Totals 24-11-63.

IL/LL 41, OLD FORGE 39

The IL/LL girls also played Old Forge in a non-league game Thursday, Feb. 13. The Orange jumped out to an 11-5 first quarter advantage. Old Forge chipped away at the lead the remainder of the game to pull ahead in the final minute of the game, but IL/LL senior Shannon Farrell hit a three-pointer to seal the 41-39 win for The Orange. Farrell finished with a game high 14 points.
