Saranac Lakers bring in the bass

RAQUETTE LAKE — A pair of Saranac Lake men won the Raquette Lake Bass Fishing Derby for the second time.

Over 90 people fished in the 11th annual event sponsored by Raquette Lake Fish and Game Club Saturday, July 24. Over 45 two-person boats registered and participated.

Prizes were handed out for the top 10 total weights of five legal bass as well as for lunker, the biggest fish of all.

First place winners were Troy Garver and Joe Tremblay of Saranac Lake, with five fish weighing a total of 15.36 pounds. This team won first place back in 2002 the first time they participated. Last year they came in second

Second place winners were Christian Bench and Marci Kunzmann of Annadale, NJ with five fish weighing 13.46 pounds. They were defending their first place finish last year, but were a little shy of the winning weight this year.

Third place was Sean Rice and Jim Baker of Inlet, with a total weight of 12.58 pounds.

The Lunker prize went to Paul Williams and Steve Friot of Potsdam with a 20-inch, 4.43-pound bass.
