With the exception of the Wells boys, area high school basketball teams played two games each last week. Due to the schools' holiday break, the teams will be idle until Jan. 3, when Wells boys and girls host Ticonderoga and the Indian Lake / Long Lake boys and girls travel to Lake Placid for Northern League games.

IL/LL 42, WELLS 8

The IL/LL and Wells girls' basketball teams met up in Indian Lake Monday, Dec. 16. The Orange scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters en route to a convincing 42-8 win over the Lady Indians.

IL/LL was led by senior Shannon Farrell's 20 points. Lilly Dechene contributed eight points and Alexis Seery recorded nine rebounds. Wells was led by Kaeli Brenan's six points.

Wells: Brown 0-0-0, K. Brenan 2-0-6, Simons 0-1-1, Kennedy 0-1-1, Darling 0-0-0, Foster 0-0-0. Totals 2-2-8.

SCHROON LAKE 56, IL/LL 46

Schroon Lake hosted the IL/LL boys Tuesday, Dec. 17. The first half was competitive with the host Wildcats edging The Orange by five at halftime. The third quarter was the deciding factor as Schroon Lake outscored IL/LL by 11 points. The Orange rallied in the fourth but couldn't recoup. Schroon Lake held on for the 56-46 win. Henry Sandiford paced IL/LL with 21 points.

IL/LL: Hoag 2-0-4, Pine 0-0-0, Sandiford 5-9-21, Seaman 4-0-10, Short 0-0-0, Morrissey 0-0-0, Giessen 5-1-11, King 0-0-0. Totals: 16-10-46.

IL/LL 52, SCHROON LAKE 28

The IL/LL girls' team didn't fold after an early deficit when they met up with Schroon Lake Dec. 18 in Long Lake. After trailing by two points at the end of the first quarter, the Orange went on a 24-4 second quarter run to take a 32-14 halftime lead. They continued to dominate the Wildcats in the second half on their way to a 52-28 win.

Shannon Farrell led the Orange with 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists. Lilly Dechene netted 18 points and hauled in six rebounds.

Schroon Lake: Finnerty 4-0-8, Subra 0-0-0, Lanave 0-0-0, Wisser 1-0-2, Ververka 4-0-8, Gadway 4-0-8, Garland 1-0-2, Rodriguez 0-0-0. Totals 14-0-28.

J'BURG 51, WELLS 50

Wells boys got off to a good start when they hosted Johnsburg Thursday, Dec. 19, but had trouble maintaining the lead. The Indians jumped out to control the first quarter 20-8. The Jaguars took the second quarter 14-10 to trail by eight at halftime. Johnsburg continued to rally, outscoring Wells by two in the third period, resulting in Wells' lead being reduced to 42-36 heading into the final stanza. The last quarter was controlled by Johnsburg (15-8) as they went on to win the game by one.

Ben Brenan was the high scorer for Wells with 18 points. Kenny Chicoski contributed 15.

Johnsburg: Smith 2-2-6, Prouty 2-1-5, Berg 7-0-14, Johnson 0-0-0, Cleveland 5-6-16, Slater 1-0-2, Washburn 2-0-4, Moore 2-0-4. Totals 21-9-51.

KEENE 43, IL/LL 29

The IL/LL boys traveled to Keene Thursday, Dec. 19. The host Beavers held the Orange to single digit scoring in each quarter on their way to the easy 43-29 win. Curtis Seaman and Henry Sandiford each scored 10 points for IL/LL.

JOHNSBURG 49, WELLS 31

The Johnsburg and Wells girls went head to head in North Creek Friday, Dec. 20. The teams were tied at 12 after the first eight minutes of play. Johnsburg then went on a 17-5 second quarter run to take control of the game. The Jaguars used a 20-14 second half to hang onto the lead and get their first win of the season. Erika Foster was high scorer for Wells with nine points.

Wells: A. Brenan 0-0-0, Mayer 3-0-6, Brown 0-0-0, K. Brenan 1-4-6, Simons 3-0-6, Kennedy 2-0-4, Darling 0-0-0, Foster 3-2-9. Totals 12-6-31.
