Parade needs donations

Monday, June 02, 2014 - Updated: 11:04 PM

Dear Cris,

The Village of Speculator's Fourth of July Parade Committee is wrapping up plans for this year's parade, which will be held Saturday, July 5, at 7 p.m. Our theme this year, "The American Hero," is sure to spark some festive floats. To kickoff the parade, the Mohawk Valley Frasiers Bagpipers will perform at 6:45 p.m. across from the chamber of commerce

This year, we are pleased to have Green Mountain Concessions (the same used for Wells Old Home Days) fill the park with rides, games and goodies all day Saturday only. The Speculator Fire Department will be busy on the grill Saturday evening.

As most people are aware, the parade is funded primarily by donations from local sponsors and limited donations from local municipalities and the Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce. Parade canisters have been placed strategically throughout the community to assist in obtaining donations from local patrons. However, we must appeal to local businesses and individuals for further funding to help keep this family tradition alive.

If you would like to donate, please mail checks, made out to the "Fourth of July Parade Committee," to Speculator Village Hall, POB 396, Speculator NY 12164. There are also $5 raffle tickets for sale for a beautiful patriotic quilt, which is on display in the chamber of commerce.

If you would like to participate in, or help with the parade, please contact the chamber at 548-4524. You can also visit our Facebook page -- Speculator 4 of July Parade -- or website -- -- for more information.

Community support is critical in making this a success. Thank you in advance for your support as we look forward to another successful, exciting annual event in celebration of our country's independence and freedom.
