Trailblazers has plans

Sunday, June 22, 2014 - Updated: 10:29 AM

Dear Editor:

The snow is finally gone and the black flies are starting to thin out. This can only mean one thing: summer is finally here!

The staff at Hamilton County Community Services has been working on setting up a summer trip schedule for our Trailblazers program. Trailblazers encourages children in grades 3-12 to get outside and be active during the summer.

We challenge kids throughout Hamilton County with a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting, horseback riding and high ropes courses. We encourage participants to step out of their comfort zones and try new things in an effort to make them stronger and more self-confident.

This year we are adding a new staff member. Seth Harrington from Lake Pleasant will be joining us and will bring enthusiasm and knowledge to this program. We're looking forward to having him be a part of our team.

Please keep an eye out for the Trailblazers schedule specific to your town. Each trip is limited to 10 participants, so it's a first come, first serve basis.

Schedules will be sent home with students from school and can also be picked up from the chamber of commerce and at the town or village hall.

We would like to thank the Indian Lake Earth Club for allowing us to partner with them once again. Anyone interested in trips in Indian Lake can contact Vonnie Liddle at the Indian Lake Town Hall.

We have also partnered with Steph Hample in Long Lake to provide trips to individuals there. If anyone is interested in attending trips in Long Lake, please contact Steph at the Long Lake Town Hall.

If you have any questions regarding our program or would like to sign a child up, please contact me at (518) 648-5355 or by e-mail

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you all this summer!
