So many pitched in

Sunday, June 22, 2014 - Updated: 10:10 AM

Dear Editor,

The Lake Pleasant Pirates Little League baseball teams have completed their first year of competition. The Minors finished with a final record of 2-6-0, which is impressive for this very young team. They played so well together and learned a lot about the game.

Thank you very much to Dick Mayers, Lynn Lane, Matt Bly, Amy Worral, Dan Worral, Charles Warfield, Matt Grassel, Jen Grassel and Amy Bartholomew for your coaching, pitching, scorekeeping and patience. Parents, friends and spectators, we hope you know how much you are appreciated! The time you sacrificed, the support you gave, the miles you drove... thank you for all of that.

The Majors team had a very good first season. Their final record was 6-3-1 which put them in second place overall for the Northern ADK League. Considering that 80 percent of these kids never played organized baseball until now makes that record even more impressive.

A big thank you goes out to the coaches, Mark O'Connor, Don Beach and Karl Abrams. Also thanks to the parent helpers: Kirk Gambrell, Lisa Johnson, Heather Stobo, Laura O'Connor and Margie Remias. Your scorekeeping, hot-dog-selling, carpooling and cheerleading were certainly appreciated as well.

Also thank you to our umpires, possibly one of the hardest jobs in baseball: Dennis Bussey, Gary Rhinehart and Kyle Atty. I hope I didn't forget anyone.

Last but certainly not least we want to thank our sponsors. Because of them families didn't have to pay and our kids experienced one of the best parts of childhood. They supplied us with the league fees, equipment, concession food and uniforms: Vogel Construction, Northwoods Lodge (and Jim Buyce Fund), The Oxbow Inn, The Oxbow Motel, Village Motorsports, NBT Bank, O'Connor Automotive, J&R Eldredge, The Inn at Speculator, Charlie John's, Stephenson Lumber and The Town of Lake Pleasant. Please support these businesses and shop locally.

Little League baseball is here to stay in Lake Pleasant and we are looking forward to many more wonderful seasons in the sun. Watch for notifications next spring for sign-ups and keep practicing Pirates... you kids rock and everyone is so proud of you!

Crysti and Mike O'Connor
