Forum is not necessary

Monday, August 19, 2013 - Updated: 6:09 PM

Dear Editor:

I would like to respond to Neil McGovern's letter to the editor in last week's paper.

First, Mr. McGovern's statement in his letter is misleading or he is misinformed. To date, I have not directly spoken to anyone as to my availability for a public forum before the Republican Primary Sept. 10.

I am confused as to why we are holding a forum, as there is no precedent for such an event.

It is my understanding that the local Chamber of Commerce, whose director is also employed by Mr. McGovern, is organizing the event. I believe the chamber should remain neutral when it comes to politics within Hamilton County, and the Republican Committee should organize such an event.

Mr. McGovern has indicated in past statements that he supports open and transparent government, as do I; however, I find the aforementioned a conflict of interest.

I am meeting with as many voters as possible, on a one-to-one basis, to discuss any issues or concerns they have regarding the town. I do not need a large stage platform to speak to the voters in order accomplish this.

Voters have voiced many concerns to me regarding the direction in which the town is moving. I would like the opportunity to address those concerns. Many have stated it's time for a change.

I urge voters to reach out to me with any questions or comments they may have. Call me at home at (518) 548-7602. I will also be at the Republican Picnic Saturday, Sept. 7.

My family has lived in Hamilton County for over 200 years and I plan to reside here for the remainder of my life. I cannot think of a better place to live.

I have worked in county government for over eight years and would like the opportunity to be an independent voice of the people. I am hard working and honest and will act in the best interest of our community if elected.

I would be honored to represent the Town of Lake Pleasant. If you want change, make sure to vote Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Kimberly Parslow Byrne

Candidate for Lake Pleasant town supervisor
