Letters to the Editor - 10/31/2012

Still waiting

Dear Cris,

If people thought the presidency of the United States reached the ultimate low when Bill Clinton had Monica Lewinsky performing in the Oval Office like a $5 Saigon whore, just stay tuned. When, and if, the truth is ever told about what really happened in the current administration as the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi was being overrun on Sept. 11, it will put the Monica scandal in the shade.

The naive lack of security and then the impotent, dishonest reaction to the attack are to date the hands-down best proof that Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are clueless rookies when it comes to the real world. If it weren’t so tragic it would be laughable to watch this bunch of lightweights continue to believe that fanatics who shoot girls in the head for wanting to go to school, who fly airplanes into buildings, and who have now tortured, raped and murdered an American ambassador can be reasoned with and trusted.

This, my fellow Americans, is the new low for the presidency.

I realize that in the alternate universe where Obama voters dwell there was this rainbow colored, butterfly, daisy filled, marshmallow flavored belief that his election would right all the wrongs of the planet, that the magic community organizer would bring peace, justice and harmony to all the lands of the earth, world without end, Amen.

Well, I’m waiting. And sadly I bet the heartbroken families of those four murdered Americans are, too.

Winkie Colby,

Piseco

Wonderful generosity

Dear Editor,

Indian Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps greatly appreciates the generosity of Indian Lake Marina for their recent contributions to the corps and Indian Lake Fire Department.

Their designating a percentage of their income for our support makes an important difference in our financing, major portions of which come from individual contributions from the public and from the taxpayers of Indian Lake.

Their assistance itself is a form of volunteerism that makes rural communities such as Indian Lake safe, healthy and pleasant places to live.

William LaPrairie,

chairman of the board, Indian Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Doheny has the drive

To the editor:

I had the honor and privilege to represent many of your readers when I served in Congress.

I never stopped learning about the district and my constituents. I averaged about 1,000 miles of driving every week in a district larger than nine states.

I didn’t expect anyone to match that pace. Then I met Matt Doheny.

Wherever two or more people are gathered, you’re likely to find Matt. He’s got the same energy and enthusiasm for the job as I once had.

I know people are cynical about Congress nowadays. They think one person can’t make a difference.

Trust me: That just isn’t the case!

One winter morning, I - then a freshman member of Congress - heard Army officials discuss a new “high priority:” the creation of light infantry divisions.

I asked General Wickham and Secretary Marsh questions after the hearing: Where would these divisions be based? When - and how - would such decisions be made? I later learned Fort Drum was not the Army’s top choice. But they hadn’t closed the door.

I had to convince the Army to base its new division at Fort Drum. We assembled a first-class team of community and government leaders in the North Country, as well as some contacts in Washington and Albany.

Our full court press worked. On Sept. 11, 1984, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger called to say he’d be announcing Fort Drum as host to a new light infantry division.

I share this because I believe Matt Doheny can lead our district’s team and help create jobs that are desperately needed. He has much greater experience than I had. His energy and enthusiasm will make it all work.

I strongly urge you to vote for Matt on Nov. 6.

God bless my old district and its constituents, and may God bless America.

Dave Martin

Hedgesville, W.Va.

David O’Brien Martin represented the North Country’s congressional district from 1981 to 1993.

Two good friends

Dear Cris:

Redistricting has returned two good friends to Hamilton County, NYS Senator Hugh Farley and NYS Assemblyman Marc Butler. Both are running for re-election to represent Hamilton County in their respective legislative houses.

Marc Butler is an experienced voice in the Assembly. Since first elected, Marc has earned a reputation as a fighter for property tax relief. He serves as the ranking minority member of the Assembly’s Economic Development Committee and recently was honored with the NYS Rifle and Pistol Association’s Legislator of the Year Award.

Hugh Farley is an officer in the NYS Senate and co-chairs the prestigious Banking Committee. A graduate of Indian Lake High School and a U.S. Army veteran, Hugh has also served as a full professor at the SUNY Albany School of Business. Sen. Farley is a veteran legislator and one of the Senate’s most respected members.

Hamilton County needs Hugh Farley’s and Marc Butler’s seniority and experience in Albany. They know the Adirondacks and the issues facing Adirondackers.

As we have in the past, we can count on Marc and Hugh to listen to our voices, carry the message and fight for our causes in Albany.

Please welcome back Senator Hugh Farley and Assemblyman Marc Butler with your vote Nov. 6.

Bill Osborne,

Lake Pleasant

A delicious dinner

Cris,

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, the staff and residents of the Wilber Lane IRA invited the Speculator firemen to a delicious lasagna dinner.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tracey McClary and the entire staff and residents for their hospitality.

We are very proud to be able to help the residents as well as the staff, whenever needed. They made us feel very welcome, as they always do, under any circumstances, and we feel that they are a very important part of our community. Thank you again.

Arthur Page, president

Speculator Fire Department

Vote for Matt Doheny

Dear Editor:

This year, we can make a difference... a big difference! A vote for Matt Doheny on Nov. 6 will:

• Open a staffed Congressional office in Hamilton County so our voice can truly be heard.

• Elect a proven businessman who knows how our economy works and how to put Americans back to work.

• Stop the out of control government spending that has tripled our deficit and mortgaged our children’s future to China.

• Reverse the explosion of job killing, big government regulations that handcuff small businesses and reduce our competitiveness.

• Lower our taxes, not to line the pockets of the wealthy but to energize the economy by leaving more money in our pockets.

• Send a representative to Washington who will work for us, not Nancy Pelosi’s “California liberal” agenda.

For four years our current congressman has voted for bigger government, more taxes, ever-higher deficits, more spending and growth suffocating regulation. The result is clear - a stagnant, no growth economy with debt piling on debt and no plan to reverse it.

Matt Doheny will make the tough decisions, take the right stands and cast the right votes to get the North Country and the entire country back on track; the track to full employment, economic growth and prosperity. That is why Matt is supported by the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties.

If we all get out and vote on Nov. 6, Hamilton County will make the difference and send Matt Doheny to Washington, DC.

Kevin Smith,

Lake Pleasant
