Late start predicted for rafting season

Normally, rafting on the Hudson River starts the first Saturday in April. Last year it did, but this year Beaver Brook Outfitters is waiting for the second Saturday, April 12, and other rafting companies haven’t even posted a start date on their websites. John Starling, owner of Adventure Sports Rafting, Indian Lake, says it would be nice to start as usual but because of ice on the river it probably won’t start until April 12. It could be an even later start-up for trips down the lower stretch to the Glen just north of Warrensburg, because that section is currently chock full of ice and all the ice to the north will need to pass through the Glen before the lower section is navigable. This photo shows opening day last year on April 6.
