High school basketball returned to action last week after the holiday break. The boys’ teams opened up play Thursday, Jan. 3, with Wells hosting Crown Point and Indian Lake / Long Lake traveling to Keene.

The Wells girls were scheduled to play Crown Point Friday, Jan. 4, but due to illness on the modified team and lack of a full squad the modified and varsity games were rescheduled for Feb. 1.

CROWN POINT 56, WELLS 45

In Wells, the Indians got off to a good start, holding a five-point lead after the first half. In the third quarter, the Indians held on for a slim one-point lead heading into the final period. The two teams traded the lead back and forth throughout most of the quarter, before Crown Point took the lead for good with about five minutes remaining in the game.

Jake Early and Ben Brennan led the Wells offense with 15 and 12 points respectively.

IL/LL 51, KEENE 18

In Keene, the IL/LL boys jumped out to an 18-0 lead and held the host Beavers to single digit scoring in the following three quarters for the 51-18 win. Keene was missing three starters due to injuries.

Seniors Matt Moore and Colin Farrell each netted 12 points, while Henry Sandiford scored 11 and Curtis Seaman chipped in with 10 for IL/LL.

IL/LL: Moore 4-1-12, Farrell 6-0-12, Sandiford 5-0-11, Seaman 4-0-10, Hart 2-1-5, King 0-1-1, Walters 0-0-0, Douglas 0-0-0, Giessen 0-0-0. Totals 21-3-51.

IL/LL 41, KEENE 29

Friday, Jan. 4, the IL/LL girls hosted 14th state-ranked Keene in Indian Lake. In the first quarter Keen held a slight lead before IL/LL got in rhythm to finish the quarter with a one-point lead. The Orange continued their surge, outscoring Keene 19-6 in the middle two periods to gain a 14-point lead heading into the final quarter. The Beavers had a short burst of scoring in the fourth quarter, getting within five points of IL/LL, but were shut down by The Orange in the final minutes.

IL/LL gained the 41-29 win with a balanced attack. Meg Smith recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Shannon Farrell scored 15 points and snagged five steals, while Jessica Bain netted 10 points, dished out six assists, hauled in six rebounds and made three steals.

Keene: McCabe 0-0-0, Paduzzi 2-2-6, Hall 1-0-2, Ta. Giger 0-0-0, Tu. Geiger 2-2-6, Holbrook 6-3-15. Totals 11-7-29.
