The high school basketball teams played a total of six games last week, including head-to-head games between the boys' and girls' teams from Indian Lake / Long Lake and Wells.

WELLS 53, CROWN PT. 48

The Wells boys picked up a Northern Basketball League win Monday, Jan. 13, when they traveled to Crown Point. The Indians held a one-point advantage after the first quarter of play. In the second quarter, they outscored the Panthers 23-9 to take a 32-17 first half lead. Crown Point rallied with a 31-21 second half edge and had opportunities down the stretch to tie the game. However, Kenny Chicoski connected on both ends of a one-and-one with only two seconds remaining to give Wells the 53-48 win.

 Chicoski led the Wells offense with 21 points. Ben Brenan chipped in with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Wells: Chicoski 8-2-21, Weaver 3-2-8, Taylor 1-0-3, Michienzi 2-2-6, Brenan 4-3-11, Young 2-0-4. Totals: 20-9-53.

Crown Point: Spring 10-1-24, DeBrobander 0-0-0, Stephens 1-0-2, Macey 3-2-10, Pertak 1-0-2, Foote 5-0-10, McIntosh 0-0-0. Totals: 20-3-48.

IL/LL 51 CROWN PT. 44

Tuesday, Jan. 14, the IL/LL girls hosted Crown Point in Long Lake. The two teams played fairly even in the first half with IL/LL edging out Crown Point 27-25. A 13-8 IL/LL advantage in the third quarter proved to be the game decider as both teams put up 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Shannon Farrell had a balanced game leading IL/LL with 24 points, eight rebounds, four assist and four steals.

Crown Point: Ryan 3-1-7, Crowningshield 0-0-0, Dushane 0-0-0, Wolf 13-5-31, Harrington 1-0-2, Foote 1-2-4. Totals 18-8-44.

IL/LL: Moore 4-0-8, Farrell 10-3-24, Piraino 4-0-8, Hamdan 1-1-3, Dechene 3-0-6, Seery 1-0-2. Totals 23-4-51.

KEENE 45, WELLS 33

The Wells boys hosted Keene Wednesday, Jan. 15. Wells held a one-point lead after the first quarter at 9-8. Keene went on to outscore The Indians in the remaining three quarters in the 45-33 win.

Kenny Chicoski was high scorer for Wells with 18 points. Ben Brenan tallied nine points, hauled in 15 rebounds and had three blocks.

Keene: Brown 8-0-18, Warner 7-0-14, Dumas 1-3-5, Venner 3-0-6, Haverlick 1-0-2. Totals 20-3-45.

Wells: Chicoski 7-0-16, Weaver 1-1-3, Taylor 1-0-3, Michienzi 1-0-2, Brenan 3-3-9. Totals 13-4-33.

IL/LL 49 CROWN PT. 46

The IL/LL boys picked up a win in Crown Point Wednesday, Jan. 15. After trailing 29-16 at the half, The Orange rallied in the second half, outscoring The Panthers 33-17. With two seconds remaining in the game Shane Shortt netted two free throws to give IL/LL a three-point lead.

Three IL/LL players scored in double figures. Henry Sandiford led the team with 23 points, Curtis Seaman recorded 12 points and Shortt had 10 points.

IL/LL: Hoag 0-0-0, Pine 1-0-2, Sandiford 7-6-23, Seaman 5-0-12, Shortt 3-2-10, Morrissey 0-0-0, King 1-0-2. Totals: 17-8-49.

Crown Point: Spring 5-5-18, DeBrobander 0-0-0, Stephens 1-0-2, Macey 3-0-8, Pertak 4-1-9, Foote 4-1-9, McIntosh 0-0-0. Totals: 17-7-46.

The IL/LL and Wells girls met up in Wells Thursday, Jan. 16. The Orange maintained control of the game throughout on their way to the 47-8 win. Shannon Farrell was high scorer for Indian Lake with 12 points. Kaeli Brenan led Wells with five points.

IL/LL: King 1-0-2; Moore 0-2-2, Farrell 5-2-12, Piraino 4-0-8, Hamdan 3-2-8, Carroll 2-0-4, Dechene 4-1-9, Seery 1-0-2. Totals: 20-7-47.

Wells: Mayer 0-1-1, Brenan 2-0-5, Kennedy 1-0-2. Totals: 3-1-8

IL/LL:  15 9 20 3 - 47

WELLS 49, IL/LL 46

The week of games concluded Friday, Jan. 17, when Wells traveled to Indian Lake. IL/LL held a 7-0 lead before Wells connected on its first basket with 4:45 remaining in the first quarter. The Orange went on to win the quarter 9-8.

After the break between periods, IL/LL scored first, leading 11-9. Wells then connected on two consecutive unanswered three-pointers to take a 14-11 lead. The Indians continued their strong play to end the half with a 29-18 lead.

Wells maintained control of the game with a 12-10 third quarter to head into the final period leading 41-28. IL/LL rallied in the fourth period, outscoring The Indians 18-8, but it wasn't enough to overcome the strong second and third quarters by Wells.

The Indians had three players with double-digit scoring. Kenny Chicoski led the team with 17 points, while Ben Brenan and Seth Weaver each scored 13. Henry Sandiford and Curtis Seaman scored 18 and 16 points respectively for IL/LL.

Wells: Chicoski 6-1-17, Weaver 5-3-13, Taylor 0-0-0, Michienzi 3-0-6, Brenan 5-3-13. Totals 19-7-49.

IL/LL: Hoag 4-4-12, Pine 0-0-0, Sandiford 8-0-18, Seaman 7-0-16, Shortt 0-0-0, Fredricks 0-0-0, King 0-0-0. Totals 19-4-46.

At the conclusion of the week the team's league records were as follows: IL/LL boys 5-4, IL/LL girls 7-2, Wells boys 3-5 and Wells girls 0-6.
