Police Report -- 01/29/2014

Saturday, Jan. 11, 8:16 a.m.: State Police responded to a report of a death at 8568 Newcomb Road in the Town of Long Lake. The deceased was 53-year-old Cindy Mandel. Long Lake Rescue Squad attempted lifesaving measures until advised by Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake to cease. Hamilton County Coroner Leonard Townsend pronounced Mandel deceased at 10:22 a.m. Miller's Funeral Home transported Mandel's body to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. There are no signs of foul play. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.

Saturday, Jan. 18, 3:22 p.m.: Five burglaries in the Town of Hope were discovered by State Police at Mayfield, who made an arrest Jan. 19.

James G. Gleason, 16, Schenectady, was charged with one count of burglary: illegal entry with criminal intent, a Class C felony, in each of two of the cases.

Another Hope burglary was discovered Jan. 19, along with three in Benson.

According to Troop G Public Information Officer Mark Cepiel, "A trooper on routine patrol noticed something unusual and checked it out. Once one was discovered, troopers then checked on similar locations and discovered the others."

Cepiel says they all appear to be related and involve seasonal residences. The incidents are ongoing investigations, so he would not release names of the property owners or other details.

Saturday, Jan. 18, 6:50 p.m.: Margaret A. Jarvis, 64, Queensbury, was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Rt. 28N in the Town of Long Lake.

She was westbound in a 2004 Hyundai Elantra when the driver lost control and the car left the highway, hitting rocks before coming to rest. Jarvis was transported to Adirondack Medical Center with pain in her shoulders and arms.

Wednesday, Jan. 22, 11:50 a.m.: Joseph B. DiGiacomo, 22, Newcomb, was charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment, a Class A misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment - physical contact, a violation, in connection with a domestic dispute reported Jan. 19.

Friday, Jan. 24, about 5:30 p.m.: Timmy K. Billington, 37, Amsterdam, was injured in a snowmobile accident on Trail C8, Perkins Clearing Road, in the Town of Lake Pleasant.

He was operating a 1999 Arctic Cat northeasterly when he left the trail, hit several trees and was ejected, sustaining head, face and chest injuries. Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to the village ball field, where a LifeNet helicopter landed to transport him to Albany Medical Center.

As of Jan. 25 at 8:40 a.m. Billington was listed in "critical" condition. Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Deputy William Wilt is investigating. State forest rangers and environmental conservation police officers also assisted at the scene.

Sunday, Jan. 26, 4:10 a.m.: Anne B. Rundell, 25, Old Forge, was charged with DWI - first offense; operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than .08 percent - first offense; and speeding. State Police made the arrest on S. Shore Rd. in the Town of Inlet. She was released to a third party.
