High school basketball teams in Hamilton County experienced many successes last week. Seven of the nine games played resulted in a win. The Wells girls had their first win of the season and the Indian Lake / Long Lake girls moved up to 16th in the New York State Sportwriters Association Class D poll.

WELLS 47, J’BURG 23

Wells boys opened up the busy week of games Tuesday, Jan. 29, hosting Johnsburg. Jake Earley led the Indians to a 47-23 win over the Jaguars with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Brennan chipped in with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

J’burg: Sears 0-0-0, Smith 0-1-1, Prouty 0-0-0, Berg 2-0-4, Morehouse 1-0-2, Cleveland 2-0-4, Watson 0-0-0, Slater 1-0-2, Washburn 4-0-8, Moore 1-0-2. Totals 11-1-23.

Keene, currently ranked 19th in the state, was in control throughout the Tuesday, Jan. 29, game versus the Lady Indians. Bobbi Jo Page led Wells with six points.

Junior Shannon Farrell put in a well-rounded game Wednesday, Jan. 30, in a 53-26 win over M/N in Indian Lake. She recorded 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Meg Smith contributed 18 points and eight rebounds, while Jessica Bain had eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.

WELLS 49, J’BURG 42

The Wells girls recorded their first win of the season Thursday, Jan. 31, over Johnsburg. The Lady Indians led by four after the first eight minutes of play and held a 29-21 halftime advantage. Johnsburg had a 15-11 third quarter run, but Wells fought them off in the final quarter to pick up the 49-42 win.

Brittany Woodward and Sam Zemken recorded career highs, scoring 29 and 14 points respectively. Woodard also had six steals and six rebounds, while Zemken tallied 12 rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Three IL/LL players scored in double figures in their 53-18 win over Crown Point Thursday, Jan. 31. Shannon Farrell led all scorers with 12 points, Meg Smith had 11 and Abby Darling recorded 10. Sydney Hinckley was active in many statistic columns with nine rebounds, six points, four steals and three assists.

Friday, Feb. 1, Colin Farrell led the IL/LL boys to a win over Crown Point with 21 points, including five of six from the charity stripe. Crown Point attempted a comeback late in the game but put IL/LL in the bonus down the stretch. The Orange netted their foul shots to put the game out of reach. Henry Sandiford and Curtis Seaman contributed 12 and 10 points respectively.

The Wells boys picked up their third win of the week with a 50-30 victory over Johnsburg Friday, Feb. 1. Jake Earley once again was the catalyst behind the Wells’ offense, with 20 points. Kenny Chicoski and Ben Brenan chipped in with eight points each. Brenan also had 10 rebounds, four blocks, three steals and three assists. Caleb Hayes doled out eight assists and snagged three steals for the Indians.
