Sectionals start this week

The Section VII basketball tournament will get under way this week with 12 teams in the boys’ bracket and seven in the girls’. Defending Section VII Girls Class D Champion Indian Lake / Long Lake received a number two seed in the girls’ tournament. On the boys’ side, IL/LL and Wells are seeded sixth and seventh respectively.

Both the Wells and the IL/LL boys will play in a preliminary game today, Feb. 20. Wells will host 10th seeded Minerva / Newcomb at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to play at second seeded Moriah Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. IL/LL will host Lake Placid, the number 11 seed, at 6 p.m. today. The winner will travel to face third seeded Elizabethtown Friday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.

Semi-finals will be played at AuSable Valley Central School Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. Plattsburgh State will host the championship game at noon Saturday, March 2.

The Lady Orange will start their quest for a third straight Section VII title Friday, Feb. 22, when they host seventh seeded Westport in a 6 p.m. quarterfinal game. The winner will move on to the semi-finals scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at AuSable Valley Central School. The opponent will be the winner of the Moriah / Willsboro quarterfinal game. The finals are scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Plattsburgh State.
