Thanks for the swag

Dear Cris,

On behalf of the Speculator Lions Club, I would like to express our appreciation to the many businesses, organizations, and individuals who so graciously supplied our club, year after year, with the many door prizes for our February Poker Run.

This is a key fundraiser for our club, and the number of prizes awarded brings our participants back year after year. Thanks again to all of you.

Get trail information

Dear Editor,

In response to the article, “Snowmobile trail reports lacking,” which appeared in the Feb. 13 edition of Hamilton County Express, I would like to clarify how the Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce goes about obtaining and reporting information regarding the snowmobile trails to the public.

In the past, we relied on the area towns and snowmobile clubs to report the conditions and what trails had been groomed / attended to. We found this system was spotty and lent itself to misleading or outdated reports.

As we all know, conditions of even the best-groomed trails can change markedly in a matter of hours. Rather than reporting outdated information we give a short summary of overall conditions with links on our main page directly to the municipalities and organizations: D.R.A.G. at, Pleasant Riders’ Facebook page and the Town of Lake Pleasant at

These links provide the most recent information as reported by those that are actually out there on the front lines of grooming.

Other links on the snowmobile section of our home page are to Adirondack trail / snowmobile information sites that have riders reporting their experiences on our local trails in a discussion board format... These are firsthand, truthful accounts of the trail conditions. In our experience, these two formats combined offer a much more detailed picture of the conditions of the area than did our previous method.

The Chamber’s goal is accurate trail reporting to provide visitors to our area with not only the most enjoyable, but also the safest, experience possible.

So proud of the team

Dear Cris,

Feb. 22 we had the privilege of going to Port Henry to watch the Wells Varsity boys’ team play against Moriah in the sectionals. While the Wells team didn’t win the game, the young men on the team are all winners in our book!

Our compliments to Coach J.C. Parslow for a job well done. Anyone who attended any of the games this year know that the Wells Varsity team members are all very level-headed and respectful young men, both on and off the court.

Congratulations to Coach Parslow and the team on a wonderful season. We are so proud of you.

Liz Taylor and Betty Lou Orr
