Friday, March 14: Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputies Corey Hutchins and William Wilt discovered an unattended death after a post office route driver at 12:52 p.m. reported mail backing up at a Piseco residence in the Town of Arietta.

Coroner Donald MacHattie pronounced Jeff Davis, 50, Haskell's Rd., dead at the scene. Northville Funeral Service transported his body to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville for autopsy, which was done that afternoon.

A spokesman said laboratory results are pending, but the death looks as if it was of natural causes. Deputy William Wilt is investigating.

Friday, March 14, 10:45 p.m.: Matthew D. Walsh, 50, Stillwater, was charged with DWI - first offense and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than .08 percent. State Police made the arrest on Rt. 30 in the Town of Long Lake. Walsh was released to a third party.

Sunday, March 16, 3:47 p.m.: Hamilton County Dispatch was notified of a snowmobile accident on the Powley Road in the Town of Arietta, about two miles from the Fulton County line.

A 12-year-old boy from Rotterdam was snowmobiling with his father when he lost control and hit a tree head on, cracking his helmet and sustaining head, neck and back injuries. Salisbury Fire Department rescue sled moved him from the woods to the Powley Place landing zone, where he was transferred to a LifeNet helicopter from Albany Medical Center.

Deputy Alex Stuart is investigating. The accident is being attributed to unsafe speed due to inexperience. The boy had just completed the New York Snowmobile Safety Course.

Two forest rangers, an environmental conservation officer, Ambulance Service of Fulton County and the Piseco and Stratford volunteer fire companies also responded.

Saturday, March 15, 1:12 p.m.: An unattended death in the Town of Hope was reported to State Police at Mayfield. No further information was available before press time.

Sunday, March 16, 3:40 p.m.: State Police were notified two people were injured in a snowmobiling accident on the Chain Lakes Road in the Town of Indian Lake, near the beach.
