Path paved for new businesses in IL

INDIAN LAKE - The Indian Lake Planning Board paved the way for three new businesses to open up in town when it met Wednesday, April 10.

After holding a public hearing on a request by James and Jennifer Zumpano for a conditional use permit that would allow them to house three new businesses in the former Pick-It Patch building at the corner of state routes 28 and 30 the board approved the permit.

Under the plan, the new businesses will be an insurance firm, a tax preparation firm and a floor and tile store to be run by David and Kim Ameden.

The plan will also continue the existence of the popular Ice Cream Garden owned and operated by Jack Hall.

Jim Zumpano said that in addition to the new business spaces the building would get a facelift with new siding. He was not prepared to say when the businesses would start to open.

Work on the improvements has begun.

No one from the public was present to comment, but of the 47 letters sent to local residents informing them of the public hearing one responded in support of the proposal.

MULTI-FAMILY ADDITION

Lance Pearson brought the board a completed application for a conditional use permit to expand his home with a 24- by 36-foot addition to create a multi-family residence. His Blue Mt. Lake home is on Rt. 28/30 across from the old Forest House.

Pearson said the addition would be used as a residence for his mother.

In addition to the application and plans for the addition, Pearson had a letter of non-jurisdiction from the Adirondack Park Agency, which regulates land use within the Adirondack Park. The letter of non-jurisdiction is needed because of the nearness of the property to a scenic road corridor and the Blue Mt. Wild Forest.

The board scheduled a public hearing on the request for its May meeting.

HOME EXPANSION

George Griebel and his contractor, Phil Monthony, asked the Planning Board to review a site plan for the two-room addition Griebel wants to add to his home on Cedar River Road.

The board agreed there is no need for a public hearing on the project; all that is needed is a building permit.

The Planning Board will next meet Wednesday, May 1, starting at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
