RAQUETTE LAKE -- The Raquette Lake Fire Department held elections April 4. Re-elected were President Mitch Edelstein, Vice President Gary Miller, Treasurer Jim Dillon and Secretary Liz Beckingham.

In a surprise to the members, Fire Chief Mark Bird nominated 2nd Assistant Chief Michael Lamphear to succeed him as chief. Lamphear was elected by a unanimous vote.

Mike Lamphear is a trained Class A interior firefighter who has been a volunteer for 14 years in various departments. He has also been an EMT for 12 years, with the past eight years as a critical care technician.

Lamphear reports that Kurt Murdock will continue as first assistant chief and Mark Bird will be second assistant chief.

A motion thanking Mark Bird for his years of leadership and service to the Raquette Lake Fire Department and the community passed by acclamation.
