HOPE -- Three new benches are being installed at Hope Town Park this week by Adam Purdy, who is working to gain Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts of America.

Purdy gave the Hope Town Board the news April 14. For another part of reaching Eagle Scout status he is required to take the minutes of a board meeting and have the board sign off on them. The board agreed to this.

Town Clerk Marleen Webster is also working to make a change in the town. She has spoken with Hamilton County Superintendent of Highways Tracy Eldridge about changing the speed limit on State Route 30 from Creek Road north to the Hope Diner.

"There are two sections along this route where it is very difficult pulling out of driveways," she says.

Eldridge told her the town board must pass a resolution requesting this change and then he would help with the required paperwork.

The board voted 3-1 to request a speed limit reduction from 55 mph to 45 mph. Councilwoman Dianna Downing voted nay. Councilman Steve Tomlinson was absent.

OTHER BUSINESS

-- Sheldon Ginter was reappointed to the Board of Assessment Review.

-- Three bids were received for flooring at Town Hall, from Albie's Carpet Craft, $4,815; Carpets "R" Affordable, $3,522; and T.C. Flooring Inc., $3,512. After considering all aspects of the bids the board awarded the contract to Carpets "R" Affordable.

-- Bids for windows at Town Hall were reviewed, but no action was taken due to lack of required information.

-- Webster is helping the county Board of Elections update its records of voters' addresses. She will be mailing out new voter registration cards and a letter explaining what is needed.

"Some of the physical addresses are incorrect and some of the mailing addresses are incorrect," she explained. "There are a little over 100 people that have some sort of error in their addresses."

The Hope Town Board will next meet Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
