Chamber unveils new interactive website

SPECULATOR - The Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce will officially unveil its new interactive website May 22, during its annual Chamber of Commerce Member Dinner at Oak Mountain Ski Center here.

The first thing users will notice is the new look. The chamber has taken the "less is more" approach to the home page and only included the most essential information. It wants visitors, both to the website and the area, to be struck by the region's inherent appeal.

The chamber wants to present the most satisfying vision that will 'grab' potential visitors at one glance. In these days of instant information image is everything.

When families decide to take a vacation the Internet is where they turn for information on where to go and what to do. With this in mind, the chamber has amped up the graphics and pictures throughout the entire site.

The most exciting part of the new website is the fact that it is interactive. There is no technical knowledge needed, and it can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection.

With the easy to use self-service tool, business members can now update the content and look of their own listings. They can:

-- add pictures, videos, files, sounds and logos -- a retailer could list an online coupon, a restaurant could add its menu as a file, etc.;

-- update days and hours of operation;

-- list sales and specials;

-- connect with other chamber members;

-- post job listings; and

-- add upcoming events to the Events listing as well as their own listings. As soon as it is approved it will be added to the main Calendar of Events on the page.

Chamber members should have received an e-mail April 26 informing them of their unique password to initially sign in to the new website. Those who have not received an e-mail (or who do not have an e-mail address) should contact the chamber to get logged in to the site.

Members will also be receiving this year's Member Dinner invitation. The focus of the meeting will be to teach members how to navigate the site, change their listings and add specials and events.

"I encourage members to log in and familiarize themselves with their listing, make changes, add photos, menus...anything you want," ASRCC Director Anna Smith says.

Smith is happy to help those who need it. Just call or visit the office or, better yet, come to the annual dinner.
