PALATINE BRIDGE -- Michael “Mikey” Gerhartz of Palatine Bridge passed away early Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Albany Medical Center. He was 48.

Born May 23, 1965 in Little Falls, he was the son of David and Maggie Mayton Gerhartz.

Mikey lived in Palatine Bridge and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia. He attended and graduated from Canajoharie Central School and was employed for WW Custom Clad for 25 years.

Mikey loved bird watching, playing Scrabble and Uno, doing puzzles, going for rides, investigating and putting together the family tree and making rubber band bracelets and was an avid fisherman. Mikey was an avid reader of abandoned houses, haunted houses and ghosts. He also enjoyed playing on his iPad, computer and watching TV.

Survivors include his parents, Dave and Maggie Gerhartz; one sister, Michele Brand and her husband Floyd and their daughters, Heather and Jessie, of Gloversville; and one brother, Wayne Gerhartz and his wife Amy of Long Lake. He is also survived by his extended family of numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie NY with the Rev. Zachary Labagh presiding. Burial followed in the Fort Plain Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mikey’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, POB 238, Palatine Bridge NY 13428.

Joseph T. Russotto

SPECULATOR--Joseph T. Russotto, 87, a longtime resident of Speculator, passed away May 12, 2014 after a brief illness.

He was born in Pawling to Felice and Josephine Russotto and is one of seven children.

He is survived by his sisters Angelina Hardisty and Pauline and Carmella Russotto. His sister Rose Townsend and brothers Mimi and Chris Russotto predeceased him.

Joe graduated from Pawling High School, served in the Army Air Force at the end of World War II, married in 1948, moved to Wappingers Falls and worked for IBM until he retired in 1984. He and his wife moved to Speculator in 1986.

He was married to his late wife Margaret for 50 years. Their three surviving children, Stephanie Datz of Beaufort, S.C., Bruce and his wife Debbie Russotto of Port Orange, Fla. and Felice Russotto of Wappingers Falls will dearly miss him. His family and many close friends will feel his loss for a long while.

Joe was a life member of the New Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department and VFW Post 7228 of Lake Pleasant. He was also a member of the Adirondack Veterans Association, the Speculator Lake Pleasant Fish and Game Club and the Pleasant Riders Snowmobile Club of Lake Pleasant.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, May 20, from 5-8 p.m. at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge Street, Northville, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday May 21, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Speculator Cemetery.
