Contributions are needed for Inlet Ping Pong Ball Drop

Monday, June 02, 2014 - Updated: 10:46 PM

INLET -- Starting at 1 p.m. July 4, about 700 children will take their turns racing on to the baseball field at Fern Park here to collect three ping-pong balls each that they will turn in for prizes.

Prizes include gift certificates and items from local shops, free passes to local attractions, chips, sodas (all donated by local businesses) and novelty toys (purchased by the Inlet Youth Commission with the help of donations).

The ping-pong balls are dropped from a seaplane owned by Payne's Air Service, which is volunteering its service and time for this event.

Businesses donate prizes and benefit from increased traffic at their establishments. Monetary donations are also needed; contact the Inlet Youth Commission before June 10 so it will know how much money it has to spend on prizes.

Donated items may be dropped off at the Inlet Information Office or call at (315) 357-5501 and arrangements will be made to pick them up. Monetary donations, gift certificates and passes can be mailed to Inlet Youth Commission, POB 412, Inlet NY 13360. The commission can make gift certificates if asked.

Volunteers are also important to this event. Trying to hand out prizes to 700 children quickly is a difficult task. The more hands helping, the happier everyone will be. Anyone who is willing to help from 12:30-1:45 p.m. is asked to call the Inlet Information Office at (315) 357-5501.
