INLET - Members and friends of Inlet Historical Society gathered Saturday, May 25, to unveil the group's new sign.

People gathered in the main collection and display room of its building to unveil the sign, donated by Trustee Waddie Kalil. Kalil gave a heartfelt oratory about the importance of collecting and sharing Inlet's history.

His focus was on the American dream lived by his father, mother and uncle as they made a living and raised their families in Inlet. He stressed the importance of community involvement in projects like a historical society and thanked all the 88 donors who have come forward in the last three months, donating over $7,000 dollars for the building's window and door fund.

He thanked the continued membership and leadership of Inlet Historical Society for their vision and the realization of a building to house the artifacts of Inlet's past. He, along with President Craig Wittlin, also thanked Inlet American Legion Post Leonard-Mick-Roberts members for their help in obtaining the building.

The historical society plans to be open every day this summer from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An open house reception followed the unveiling so visitors could view a portion of the growing collection.
