A small business owner speaks

Wednesday, June 18, 2014 - Updated: 9:15 AM

Dear Editor,

As a small business owner and a lifelong self-employed individual, my concerns circle around two things of main importance. One of those concerns addresses regulations which are enacted with every hiccup that happens in the world, and that it doesn’t overpower the ability of remaining a viable and profitable business entity. The second concern is that of a good source of trainable employees and clients that support the existence of the small businesses.

With many of these insecure marketplace conditions, New York is losing the treasure of its youth to business forums far away.

As a parent and grandparent I have to stand and fight for the area that I was born and grew up in like many families before me to make the North Country better for the next generation. We need help from energetic new leaders with the passion to accomplish great things, rejuvenate problem areas, keep our economy vibrant and have the insight from real life experiences to address the many issues before us all.

Matt Doheny has the business credentials to meet this criteria and is the right choice for our representation in the 21st Congressional District. He sits on the boards of YRC Freight and KODAK, bringing his abilities to the table where jobs are in jeopardy and critical strategies are required. This is quite an accomplishment for a young man in his forties. He can do the same for us in Congress.

If we fail to elect someone with the necessary skillset to work on these complex issues our road will continue to have many curves and uncertainties. Only a candidate from Northern New York can identify with the way of life we all are accustomed to. Residing and raising his family here puts an even greater emphasis on the awareness and concerns of the average Northern New Yorker. If you have roots in the North Country, you’ll always come back to the North Country.

Vote against the negative attacks on a successful person. Make Tuesday, June 24th, Primary Day, a show of support for Matt Doheny as “One of Us” for the 21st Congressional District.
