Aurora reflections

The northern lights put on a fantastic display early Saturday, June 1, bright enough to reflect shoreline plants in the waters of Kunjamuk Bay. The source of the auroras was an interplanetary shockwave of unknown origins that caused an intense geomagnetic storm. This storm rated close to a 7 on the Kp-Index Scale. Comparatively, a rating of 4 on this scale is usually barely visible in the southern Adirondacks.
