WELLS--The three people injured in a motor vehicle accident this morning in front of Wells Central School are all expected to live, according to Deputy Corey Hutchins.

They are Colette J. Russell, 32, Wells; Walker P. Russell, 8; and Lisa J. Pecore, 53.

Pecore was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet helicopter service. Both Russells were transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville by ambulance.

The call came into Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at 10:12 a.m.

Hutchins, who investigated, said a 2012 Subaru Outback operated by Colette Russell was stopped in the northbound lane and signaling to turn into the school when it was hit from behind by a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck operated by Michael D. Denison, 36, Galway.

Hutchins said Denison told him he wasn’t paying attention and didn’t see the stopped car in time. “He tried to avoid hitting it but could not,” Hutchins said. “He rear-ended the Subaru.”

The three injured people were in the Subaru. The front seat passenger, Pecore, was airlifted with possible back injuries. The other two -- driver Colette Russell and Walker Russell, who was in the back seat -- were taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital by Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Colette Russell complained of shoulder / upper arm pain and Walker Russell of knee / lower leg/ foot pain.

Personnel with Ambulance Service of Fulton County checked pickup truck driver Denison, who did not want to be taken to hospital. He was ticketed for following too closely.

Hutchins said no alcohol was involved and a review of Denison’s cell phone showed he had not been talking nor texting on it.

Wells Volunteer Ambulance Corps, first on the scene, tended to Pecore until LifeNet arrived. O’Connor Automotive towed both vehicles.
