LAKE PLEASANT -- Hamilton County and the 21st Congressional District went for Elise M. Stefanik in the Republican Primary Election Tuesday, June 24.

Turnout was low, with just 548 Republicans across the county casting ballots. Unofficial results show Stefanik won by 70 votes, 309 to Matthew Doheny's 239.

Stefanik took each of the county's 11 election districts with the exception of Hope, where Doheny came out ahead.

According to the Associated Press, unofficial results show Stefanik with 15,292 votes across the district and Doheny with 9,773.

Her win means Stefanik will have the Republican Party line in the Nov. 4 General Election as well as the Conservative Party line.

She will face Democrat and Working Families candidate Aaron Woolf, a filmmaker from Brooklyn, and Green Party candidate Matt Funiciello, a businessman from Glens Falls. Doheny will have the Independence Party line if he stays in the race.

Rep. William "Bill" Owens of Plattsburgh, who currently holds the 21st Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, is not running for another term.

The 21st Congressional District spans more than 16,000 square miles. It comprises all or part of the following 12 counties: Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer (partial), Jefferson, Lewis, Saratoga (partial), St. Lawrence, Warren and Washington.
