INLET -- Matt’s Hot Screamers are off to a good start in the softball season with two strong showings and a pair of victories.

Last week the team travelled to North Creek for a game against Inn on Gore. The home team took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Heather Levi started the second inning with a lead-off single, followed by Crystal LaPorte doing the same. After one out, Ashley Fowler smashed a single to bring Levi home. Kaitlyn Payne followed  up with a hit that scored LaPorte. Emily Wilton made it three in a row to give the Screamers a 3-1 lead.

Kyle Hauser led off the fourth inning with a hit and later scored on Wilton's double. Brittany Jackson led the fifth with a single and Meghan Kraeger followed, crushing a two-run homer and giving the team a 6-1 lead.

Inn on Gore scored two runs in the sixth, but it was too late as the Screamers scored six more times with key hits off the bats of Dede Ste. Marie, Beth Williamson, Loren Dykeman and Kraeger. The final score was 12-3.

In week one at Arrowhead Park, against the squad from Indian Lake, the home team dominated from the start, led by Ste. Marie hitting a double and scoring on a three-run bomb off the bat of Williamson hit into the trees over the centerfield fence. That was followed by seven more hits and a 7-0 lead.

The team put together 27 hits and 16 runs for an easy victory. Dykeman and Ste. Marie split the pitching duties. Payne and Ashley Fowler shared the catcher's position and batted a combined seven for eight. Levi, Kraeger, LaPorte, Hauser and Wilton all had multi-hit games. The final score was 16-1.

The next opponent was the local rivals from Raquette Lake July 1, a home game at Arrowhead Park. All games are Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.
