Cunningham rafting suspended

Tuesday, July 15, 2014 - Updated: 9:50 PM

JOHNSTOWN -- Patrick Cunningham's Hudson River Rafting Company in North Creek has once again been ordered to suspend its whitewater rafting operations.

State Supreme Court Justice Richard Giardino on July 8 reaffirmed his May 2013 order requiring Cunningham to post a $50,000 performance bond.

Cunningham had posted the bond, but a $25,000 fine was drawn from it after he was found guilty of sending customers downriver without a licensed guide in defiance of a court order.

The state Attorney General's Office sought to close Cunningham down in 2012, after a woman drowned during one of his trips, but instead Giardino fined him $12,000 and required the performance bond.

The judge's newest order pertains to any part of the river where licensed guides are required.
