Alex Smith to play in Indian Lake

Tuesday, July 29, 2014 - Updated: 4:04 PM

INDIAN LAKE -- Alex Smith will bring music from his newest album, inspired by and named for the county, to Indian Lake Theater for a concert Saturday, Aug. 9.

"We like nothing more than when our stage is a venue for local talent," says theater Director Danielle Shaw. "Alex has played at the theater before, but we're looking forward to having him back to hear his new locally-inspired music on 'Hamilton County.'"

Drawing praise from local musicians such as Dan Berggren and Chris Shaw, who say he "personifies the next generation of Adirondack singer-songwriters," Smith's music has been played on stages from Vermont to Colorado this summer.

His previous albums include "North Country Sessions" and "Live with Dylan Rice."

Alex grew up in Long Lake. He began writing songs at age 12, finding material in familial and local traditions.

He began touring while attending St. Lawrence University and was then signed to Wetpecket Island Records, which produced his latest release.

The concert is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 each.
