LONG LAKE - Author Gail Huntley grew up in Long Lake. Now she taps into early 1800 in the first of a planned set of books that will capture the lives of the people who first settled in the town.

The book is entitled "Conquering the Wild" and is based on real people in real times.

Huntley drew from her many hours of research, including paragraphs about Long Lake in numerous Adirondack books, pieces of paper collected by individuals, the Long Lake Archives, diaries, and personal interviews of oral history handed down through generations.

The series will capture the struggles, joys and heartbreaks of Long Lake life from the first pioneers through two world wars and on into the 1970s.

Huntley has also published the book, "Blunt Force Winds," newspaper articles and poetry. She is a retired English teacher who resides in the Adirondacks. She spends winter months in the Shenandoah Valley with her children and grandchildren.
