New veterans group coming

Tuesday, August 12, 2014 - Updated: 8:31 PM

LAKE PLEASANT -- The Adirondack Veterans Association is seeking new members in Lake Pleasant and throughout Hamilton County.

This organization is open to any U.S. citizen who is currently serving or has completed the contract period of service in any of the United States military services, including the Reserves and National Guard.

The Adirondack Veterans Association is an existing group that is expanding its membership within Hamilton County.

The AVA will utilize the current Veterans of Foreign Wars post at 2369 State Route 8 in Lake Pleasant. The VFW's membership has been slowly shrinking over the past few years.

"Our hopes are that there are many qualified past or current military that cannot join the VFW, but would consider joining this fine organization, The Adirondack Veterans Association," said Bill McGuire of Lake Pleasant.

There will be an informational meeting at the VFW building Saturday, Aug. 30, starting at 9 a.m. Anyone interested in joining or just having an interest in veterans is encouraged to contact McGuire at (518) 548-7597 or (315) 725-7381.
