AMC ranked among best community hospitals

Tuesday, August 19, 2014 - Updated: 12:59 PM

SARANAC LAKE -- Adirondack Medical Center has been named among the "100 Great Community Hospitals" in the nation by Becker's Hospital Review for 2014.

The hospitals on the list have fewer than 550 beds and minimal teaching programs. Some are located in suburban areas, but many are found in rural areas and serve as the only hospitals in their communities.

Whether independent or part of a larger health system, the "great community hospitals" have continually worked to provide the quality of care and the experience patients expect.

Adirondack Medical Center, a 97-bed facility, is a member of Adirondack Health, the only full-service health system in the Adirondack Park.

"It is humbling and gratifying for Adirondack Health to receive this recognition," said Chief Operating Officer Patti Hammond. "However, this unique designation is the result of our patients and long-term care residents who choose us because they know they will receive consistent, high-quality care."

The criteria for selecting the community hospitals was based on rankings and awards from iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters), CareChex, and the American Hospital Association.

In addition to AMC in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, Adirondack Health offers primary care services in Keene, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake; a broad range of specialty care services, physical rehabilitation services, dental care, and long-term care at sites in Lake Placid and Tupper Lake.
