GASOLINE

State average: $3.528/gallon (last year $3.848).

Upstate avg.: $3.539/gallon (last year $3.894).

DIESEL

Statewide avg.: $3.938/gallon (last year $4.155).

HEATING OIL

Statewide avg.: $3.901/gallon (last year $4.122).

North Country avg.: $3.761/gallon (last year $3.931).

PROPANE

Statewide avg.: $2.794/gallon (last year $2.671).

North Country avg.: $3.018 (last year $2.945).

Average energy prices as of Nov. 11 are from New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Statewide and North Country prices for 87-octane gasoline as of Nov. 11 are from Oil Price Information Service and NYSERDA.

LATEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

NYS: Aug. 2012 - 8.5%; Aug. 2013 - 7.5%

Hamilton County: Aug. 2012 - 5.0%; Aug. 2013 - 4.2%

Note: Hamilton County always has one of the highest unemployment rates in the winter and one of the lowest in the summer. It had the lowest unemployment rate in the state for August.

Due to the partial shutdown of the federal government, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics delayed sending jobs and labor force data to the NYS Department of Labor. As a result, the press release schedule for October and November has been revised as follows:

On Thursday, Nov. 21, at 12:30 p.m. final September and preliminary October jobs data by industry for New York state, metro areas and counties as well as labor force data (including unemployment rates) for New York state, New York City and the Balance of State (NYS outside of NYC) region will be released.

On Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 12:30 p.m. both final September and preliminary October labor force data (including unemployment rates) for regions, metro areas, counties and municipalities with at least 25,000 people will be released.
