Alarmed by Common Core

Thursday, November 14, 2013 - Updated: 6:28 PM

Dear Ms. Meixner,

I am deeply alarmed at New York state's acceptance of a program that is constitutionally unsound. Education should fall under state's rights according to the 10th Amendment, yet the Common Core initiative usurps these rights.

It is astounding that we are putting the education of our children into the hands of people who are not "in the business" of education, i.e. Bill Gates, Rupert Murdoch, John King et al., people who themselves use different modes of education for their own children!

With the breach of security that has already occurred in the system, I would not put our children's data in the "cloud" which could be accessed by individuals, companies, etc. who might have pecuniary or nefarious goals.

There are many experts and scholarly research that attests to the inefficacy of the standardized educational methods of the Common Core.

A plethora of information concerning this issue is available which will help citizens educate themselves about the poorly drafted, cognitively deficient, and understudied implementation of this egregious program.
