Indian Lake getting new service station

INDIAN LAKE -- John Starling's request for a conditional use permit that would allow him to use his Blueline bus garage as an automotive repair garage and state inspection station was approved without conditions when the Indian Lake Planning Board met Wednesday, Dec. 4.

The approval came after a public hearing during which no one from the public was present to comment. None of the 28 nearby property owners responded by phone or by mail to letters informing them of the hearing.

The garage is behind Community Bank on Main Street. Starling owns the property behind and to the right of the bank (on the west side), including Adirondack Pickle Ladies. He grants a right-of-way to the bank and its customers over the access to his garage.

In addition to the repair and inspection of cars and pickup trucks, Starling plans to inspect and repair large trucks. He says the next closest garage offering state inspections for commercial trucks is in Pottersville.

Brothers Edward and David Bard, who share 54 acres off Pashley Road, submitted conditional use applications to permanently site two large (40-foot) travel trailers on their property.

The board accepted the applications and scheduled a public hearing on the requests for its January meeting.

Leonard and Boka Baglieri, owners of the Blue Mountain Rest motel on State Route 28N/30 next to Timm Associates in Blue Mountain Lake, came before the board with applications to add two or more rental units on their property.

After some discussion, the board agreed the Baglieris would first need to request and obtain a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals, because the additional units would exceed the 1.3-acre density limit for principal buildings in Blue Mt. Lake.

The Indian Lake Planning Board will next meet Wednesday, Jan. 8, starting at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
