Indians and Orange go head to head

The 2012-13 Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference Division III basketball season got under way last week when the two county varsity teams went head to head.

The Indian Lake / Long Lake boys traveled to Wells Tuesday. The following night the Wells girls traveled to IL/LL.

WELLS 45, IL/LL 42

Wells and IL/LL boys played very closely throughout the Dec. 4 league game. In the first quarter, the host Indians held a one-point advantage. In the second period, The Orange recorded a 6-4 score and led by one going into the second half.

The two teams both scored 12 in the third period as IL/LL maintained a one-point lead. In the final quarter a full court press and 11 points from Jake Earley gave Wells the 45-42 win.

Earley totaled 25 points and ripped down 11 rebounds while Ben Brennan recorded 13 rebounds and six points. Colin Farrell led IL/LL with 15 points.

IL/LL: Moore 3-0-8, Farrell 5-4-15, Sandiford 3-0-7, Seaman 2-0-5, Douglas 1-0-2, Giessen 1-1-3, Hart 1-0-2. Totals 16-5-42.

WELLS: Earley 11-3-25, Hayes 3-0-6, Chicoski 1-1-3, Brennan 3-0-6, Weaver 2-1-5, Hoffman 0-0-0, Michienzi 0-0-0. Totals 20-5-45.

3-point goals: IL/LL (Moore 2, Farrell 1, Sandiford 1, Seaman 1).

Wednesday, Dec. 5, the Lady Indians faced defending Section VII champion IL/LL. The Orange jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead and finished the game with a 33-13 advantage.

Meg Smith was high scorer for IL/LL with 13 points while hauling in six rebounds. Shannon Farrell chipped in with nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Point guard Jessica Bain contributed five steals, four assists and three rebounds.

Brittany Woodward’s 11 points led Wells.

IL/LL: Farrell 4-1-9, King 0-0-0, Wilder 0-0-0, Darling 0-0-0, Bain 2-0-4, Walters 1-0-2, Hamdan 1-1-3, Moore 0-0-0, Hinckley 0-0-0, Smith 6-1-13, Seery 0-0-0, Foster 0-0-0. Totals 15-3-33.
